How Socio-political Theories found Their Way to Indian Art Scene

Abstract:

The paper is about ‘how social and political theories found their way to Indian art scene’. In the paper I am trying to understand how the introduction of social and political approaches starts to take place in India. How these approaches affect artist’s personality and affect other approaches as well.

The paper also tries to understand, do other artists start to take social or political approaches because of urge & immediacy to express or there is a psychological factor called ‘conformity’. The paper also tries to explore what the terms ‘social’ and ‘political’ means in art. Are these the synonyms of each other or different from each other or one present larger term and other exists within it. Do they have similar meaning in visual arts as they have in general language?

Paper will also try to trace different approaches to express social or political theories and understand that these approaches presented by the artist actually represent a ‘school’ which is now dominating the art scene. If social and political approaches have become a school then, when will be right time to break free from it and introduce something new? If social and political approaches have become school/s then there must be different voices from the field which are not able to find exposure and eventually will vanish.

Paper will also try to understand the psychological consequences of social and political approaches on viewer, artist and art itself.
